Inhale Positive Thoughts 💖Exhale Negative Thoughts!

Life is a work-in-progress at every stage. It is not the number of things we do, it is rather the quality of what we do that makes a difference in our health and well being.

Slow Down and Smell the Roses…

We hear the saying; “slow down and smell the roses” but many of us don’t take time to understand it. For thirty years, I would rush around, doing everyone’s workload, and take on responsibilities, with very little relaxation. I felt that it was my responsibility to nurture, and take care of people around me, whether they were family, friends, colleagues, clients, hired hands or neighbors. I was proud of my good nature and hard work, not realizing what I was doing to my health, physically and emotionally. I was constantly thinking about improving, reorganizing, planning, and doing it all. In fact, I could not sit around for more than 10 minutes, unless I was really sick, which was often.

As I got older, I realized that years of abusing my body had caused physical nagging pain, emotional stress, severe insomnia, and it had totally spoiled everyone around me. I blame myself for being a workaholic. Also, having a germ phobia would not allow me to accept help from others. It was time to get back to retraining my brain, to get rid of my newly recognized self-inflicted unhealthy behavior.

A few thoughts below helped me to overcome some issues:

➡️ It is OK to ask for help or delegate. In many situations, family and friends are happy to share the workload with you.

➡️ It is OK to rely on help, even though things might get done differently than you would do them.

  • It is OK to accept help, without attempting to redo the work.

➡️It is OK to divide the work throughout the day, instead of trying to get it done all at once.

➡️It is NOT OK to obsess over germs, cleanliness, and neatness, which have been some of my major issues. However, this type of OCD can be beneficial in many ways, especially preventing you from food poisoning and/or getting sick from germs. On the other hand, you still have to deal with public places such as restaurants, planes, trains, dirty toilets, etc.

All the above can be possible, if your family genuinely takes over some of the daily responsibilities, without constant reminders.

Traditional relaxation techniques include:

💖Meditate first thing in the morning to help set your day. Close your eyes; inhale positive thoughts and exhale negative thoughts.

💖Move in slower paced.

💖Pamper yourself often.

💖Visualize happy places, enforcing positive thoughts.

💖Get inspired by cloud formations, sunrises, and sunsets.

💖Visit botanical gardens, parks and zoos.

💖Participate in bird-watching events.

💖Low-impact exercises such as; walking, swimming, easy yoga, etc can have a tremendous health effect.

💖Plant a few herbs in your backyard. Herbal teas are known to be soothing and beneficial.

💖Last-but-not-least, drink a glass of pure cocoa mixed with water, soy or nonfat milk. It is known to reduce stress level.

💖Make genuine friends — it can be a form of therapy.
